Case study - Sentosa themed public activation

PACMAN and Friends at Sentosa

A playable human game environment supported by wearable illuminated inflatable characters.

The public saw a bright, game-like maze with familiar characters, glowing paths and high participation energy. Behind the finished activation was a production process that translated flat character references into wearable forms, remote lighting systems, factory-tested movement and event-ready scenic assets.

Final effect first

A playful public game had to work as a real event system

The finished activation needed to read instantly: maze, characters, movement, light and photo value. It also needed to survive repeated public use, performer movement, staff resets and fixed event timings. That combination made the production challenge different from a normal static prop display.

Our role

From recognizable character references to buildable event assets

01

Concept to model

Flat game references had to become human-scale inflatable forms. The team had to preserve silhouette, color and expression while allowing enough space for internal support and performer movement.

02

Wearable and illuminated

The character assets needed internal lighting, wiring, controller access, ventilation and a wearable structure that could be used repeatedly during a public event.

03

Factory tested before site

Before delivery, production checks covered inflation behavior, scale, walking clearance, lighting effect, finish quality and packing logic so the activation could enter site with fewer unknowns.

Behind the scene

The production challenge was making playful assets practical

Concept to model

Recognizable shape, human movement and production feasibility

The first production problem was not only drawing the characters. It was turning them into inflated forms that people could wear, walk inside, see through and operate safely while keeping the visual language instantly recognizable.

Wearable lighting

Remote control, access points and maintainable wiring

Illuminated characters need more than LEDs. The team had to coordinate controller placement, cable routing, fan or air movement, battery access and internal harness logic so the costumes could be used and serviced during the activation.

Factory testing

Check scale, finish and movement before the event deadline

The factory tests helped confirm that the assets inflated correctly, held their shape, looked consistent as a character set and could be worn. For public events, this work is cheaper and safer before the assets reach site.

Public activation logic

A record-style game needs operational clarity, not only visual impact

Instant readabilityVisitors need to understand the game world, path and characters within seconds.
Repeated public useProps and costumes must handle movement, resets and long event days.
Performer comfortWearable forms need visibility, airflow, clearance and support logic.
Lighting reliabilityInternal lighting has to be controllable, serviceable and consistent in photos.
Staff operationsSetup, packing labels, access points and repair notes help the event team run smoothly.
Photo valueThe maze, screen, characters and glowing paths work together as a media-friendly moment.
What this case proves

Themed activation production is a bridge between play and operations

For a public-facing game, the build has to look playful to guests and practical to the operations team. This case shows the value of coordinating creative translation, fabrication, electronics, wearable ergonomics, factory testing and site-ready handover as one production path.

Character-to-fabrication translationTurn visual references into buildable sizes, patterns, colors and finishes.
Wearable inflatable engineeringBalance shape, movement, harness, internal space and performer visibility.
Lighting and control coordinationRemote lighting, wiring, access and maintenance planning for live events.
Factory-side checksInflation, scale, movement and finish verification before shipment.
Public activation readinessAssets that support staff flow, visitor engagement and quick reset cycles.

FAQ

Questions agencies usually ask about similar public game activations

What did ACT Creative support for PACMAN and Friends at Sentosa?

We supported production coordination for a themed public activation, including wearable inflatable character development, remote lighting implementation, factory testing, maze environment assets and event-ready fabrication planning.

Can ACT Creative produce wearable inflatable characters for public events?

Yes. We can help turn character references into wearable event assets, coordinating shape development, internal harness logic, lighting, ventilation, performer movement and factory testing before delivery.

Why does a human game activation need factory testing?

Public participation games involve repeated use, audience movement and fixed event timing. Factory testing helps check inflation, lighting, visibility, walking comfort, repair access and packing before the assets reach the venue.

What should an agency prepare for a similar themed activation?

Prepare the event date, venue, audience flow, character references, movement requirements, lighting needs, safety constraints, asset list, transport plan and installation schedule.
